I’m Senator Sam Slom representing Oahu’s 8th District: Hawaii Kai, Niu, Aina Haina, Waialae and Diamond Head.

It has been my privilege to represent the people of Hawaii and I would like to humbly ask for your vote again this year to continue my public service.

During my terms in office I have always worked hard, listened, been accessible to Hawaii’s people, regardless of where they live, and personally return telephone and other inquiries promptly. My political philosophy is simple: limit government and optimize individual choice with the responsibility that comes with those choices. I support meaningful, systemic education reform, a fair business and investment climate, law enforcement initiatives and incentives to preserve, protect and value our environment.

I oppose bureaucratic and wasteful government, excessive taxation—I’ve voted against every new tax— and special treatment for elected officials. Likewise, bans don’t work and adding new laws instead of enforcing existing law is counterproductive. Money doesn’t always solve our problems. I’ve offered positive, workable, alternative solutions to problems facing Hawaii.

My confidence is with our individual citizens, families, and small business and the traditional values and ethics they possess, not with more government. Government is a tool to protect our Constitutional rights and to help those who cannot help themselves.
