Campaign Update – October 1, 2010
There are only 33 days to the November 2 general election. If you haven’t registered to vote in the general election, you have until Monday, October 4 to do so at City Hall. Voter registration information can be found at the State Elections website.
The campaign is in motion with sign waving scheduled to start at 3:30 pm today at the end of the H1 freeway where Kalanianaole Highway begins near Waikui Street. Parking is available in the residential area. Senator Slom will have T-shirts and signs available. All supporters are invited to attend. You can still sign up at our Facebook page (not required).
Upcoming event dates: October 2 – District 17, 18 & 19 GOP Hawaii meeting at Kuapa Isle Clubhouse, starts @ 8:30 AM.
Senator Slom and Rep. Gene Ward will be holding a town meeting on “Appointed or Elected Board of Education” at Hahaione School this coming Tuesday, October 5 starting at 7:00 pm. Senator Slom supports the amendment to appoint the Board of Educaiton and urges a “YES” vote. The amendment will “more clearly fix responsibility with the executive for public education.”
In addition to the appointed board of education amendment, there is another that will authorize the legislature to determine what to do with excess funds. If passed, the legislature could withhold tax refunds or tax credits from the taxpayers under “emergency” conditions. Bad proposal, Senator Slom urges a “NO” vote.
You can read up on both of the constitutional amendment proposals at the Hawaii State Legislature website.
On October 6, Senator Slom will be participating in the Aina Haina Community Association Candidate’s Night starting at 7:PM. The event will be held at the Aina Haina School Cafeteria.
Senator Slom will be on the mainland from October 7 to 12.
The next campaign fundraiser is scheduled for October 23 at the Grey’s residence in Hawaii Kai. Details forthcoming.
