Today’s the big day for University of Hawaii Warrior Football. This is it. The huge UH Warriors vs. Boise State WAC Championship Game. University of Hawaii Warriors are playing in Boise Idaho this morning starting at 9:30 AM Hawaii Time. All Oceanic Digital Cable TV customers can catch the live broadcast of this exciting football game on Digital Channel 219.

SENATE MAJORITY ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP

State Senator Shan S. Tsutsui has been named the new Senate President. In a press release issued yesterday, the new Senate President stated “I’m humbled by the confidence my colleagues have bestowed upon me. We are excited to work with the new Governor on moving Hawaii forward and improving the quality of life of our residents, now and in the future.”

State Senator Donna Mercado Kim remains as Vice-President. Senator David Ige is the new Ways & Means chair. Senator Clayton Hee is Senate Judiciary & Labor committee chair and Senator Rosalyn Baker is chair of the Commerce & Consumer Protection Committee. There are 15 Senate Committees.

Senator Slom looks forward to working with the new Senate President. He and Senator Tsutsui are scheduled to meet next week. Senator Slom is the only member of the Senate Minority.  The news article is also posted at the Senate Minority website blog.

HOUSE MINORITY ANNOUNCE CAUCUS LEADERS

House Republicans selected Representative Gene Ward Ph.D. as Minority Leader and Representative Kymberly Pine will continue to serve as the Minority Floor Leader. Cynthia Thielen remains the Assistant Minority Leader, Corinne Ching will be the Assistant Minority Floor Leader and Barbara Marumoto will be the Minority Policy Leader. The three freshman George Fontaine, Aaron Johanson and Gil Riviere will serve as Whips. The complete press release appears at this link.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

Senator Slom will be attending this morning’s monthly GOP Hawaii district meeting at the Kuapa Isle Clubhouse in Hawaii Kai starting at 8:30 AM. He will be giving a short summary of this past week’s election.

Later this morning, Senator Slom will be attending the Hawaii Rifle Association lunch with former NRA President Sandy Froman starting at 11am at the KMCBH Officer’s Club in Kaneohe.

The Senate Invocation Committee will be holding a meeting at the State Capitol in Room 409 on Wednesday, November 10 starting at 2:00 p.m.

The final election results were posted at the State Elections website. The final numbers for Senator Slom’s race are as follows:

Sam Slom – 12,312 (55.4%) | Larry Price – 7,708 (34.7%) | Blank Votes 2,178 (9.8%) | Over Votes 8 (0.0%)

Voter turnout for this year’s general election was at 55.7%. There were a total of 690,748 people who registered. Only 385,034 people came out to vote. A sad reflection of our times.
